Girls’ Generation, once again, proved their popularity when they becomes the first celebrity to get 1 million friends on KakaoTalk. Girls’ Generation’s Plus Friend feature began in December, 2011 and until July 12, 2012, there are more than 1 million fans have added the group to their friend list
Billboard reported about Girls’ Generation’s new chart accomplishment. The group, whom appears as Shojo Jidal on Japanese charts, rocketed to the No. 1 spot from July 2 to July 8 on the Japan Hot 100 with their Japanese track ‘PAPARAZZI’. Its sales were 103,000 until July 13. This truly solidified their leading of the K-pop girl group pack in Japan.
Girls’ Generation, on July 2, performed at KPOP Nation Concert together with other Korean groups in order to promote KPOP as well as Korean culture. The girls’ warm welcome started as soon as they arrived in Macau, whe so many fans were waiting at the Macau ferry for a chance to see them. This further proved the girls’ explosive popularity not only in South Korea but also internationally. Later, Girls’ Generation, on July 12, appeared to perform at ’2012 Yeosu World Expo Pop Festival’. They dressed in amazing black outfits, which made them look cooler and sexier. In the two events, the girls sang their popular songs such as ‘Genie’, ‘Hoot’, ‘The Boys’ and so on.
Yoona, on July 4, was chosen as the new model for CIBA VISION’s ‘DAILIES’ and ‘FreshLook’ contact lenses. With her ‘deer eyes’, Yoona is the most perfect choice to become the model for those products. Moreover, Yoona’s innocent, healthy image fits the safe and easily wearable ‘DAILIES’ and ‘FreshLook’ brand images well.
In early July, Baby-G, a brand of watches which are meant to be shock-resistant for young women, selected Girls’ Generation as Model in some Asian countries and Australia. The photoshoot for the brand has just taken place. The girls in their sport jerseys could be seen posing naturally in front of the camera, which fits the tough, cute, and cool concept of ‘Baby-G’ well.
Not only becoming the model for products, Girls’ Generation was also chosen to promote Korean culture. Recently, the girls have appeared in the ‘Korean Promotion Guide Book’ by Professor Seo Kyoung Duk. The book introduces the main cultural contents of Korea Republic including alphabets, food, traditional dress, traditional handmade paper, and traditional house.
‘Girls’ Generation TV’ with Yoona and Seohyun as the official models has become a ‘big hit’ in the market when there were more than 20,000 units sold. This is a hard-to-reach number for television with the price of over 2 million won. Moreover, Eider, an outdoor clothing brand, reported that their sales has grew over 200% thanks to Yoona and Lee Min Ho. The products Yoona wore in commercials and advertisements were sold out completely. ‘Girls’ Generation effect’ works not only for technology products but also for outdoor clothing.
‘LOVE RAIN’ press conference, on July 24, was held in Tokyo with the participation of the main actor and atress, Yoona and Jang Geun Suk, to promote for the drama. They looked good together and also cooperated well. In the conference, they shared some memorable stories while filming as well as their thoughts about the plot. Although this drama was not very successful in term of ratings in Korea, it drew much attention in Japan. ‘LOVE RAIN’ was aired on Fuji TV since July 25 and gained high ratings.
Recently, in the interview with HIGH CUT Magazine vol.81, Girls’ Generation had a chance to share their thoughts about sub-group TaeTiSeo as well as each member’s individual activities. Although their name are ‘Girls’ Generation’, all members have become adults now. When being asked about what Girls’ Generation will be doing ten years from now, the girls said, ‘Girls’ Generation will still exist then.’ They want to be like their seniors, Shinwa, and still be active and appear as Girls’ Generation. Each member might focus more on their own activities, however, Girls’ Generation will still exist and hold concerts every now and then. Thus, SONES, please be assured!
5 years have passed since Girls’ Generation made their debut on August 5, 2007. Recently, on July 28, 2012, Girls’ Generation held a fanmeeting to celebrate the 5th Anniversary and Tiffany’s birthday (Aug 1). Although Sunny could not appear in the party, the girls and SONEs have spent a happy time together.
5-year milestone anniversary has a special meaning because many groups broke up before they could reach that. In the past 5 years, Girls’ Generationa and their fans together have had many happy memories as well as sad ones, which made them become closer. Let’s hope thet Girls’ Generation can do as what they once said, ‘Girls’ Generation will still exist.’ We wish that the girls will be prettier, more popular and successful in the future!
